[WARNING: You are now entering in the space between reality and the impossible], a space of dreams, hopes and fears. This space is occupied by future forecasts, design scenarios, utopias and dystopias*. Speculative Design is more than an approach; it behaves like an attitude.

 

Speculation must have a fictional mindset with a discursive (debating) objective in exploring ideas, creating problems that do not exist, and provoking audiences. I know that you may find that the speculative scenarios are unclear and complicated, but they need to place themselves at this dichotomous threshold between who is real/serious or fictional/absurd.

This is a dialogue about what the future may — or may not — be, and about the kind of current reality we want to — or we don’t want to — be involved in and, thus, its complexity. Remember to forecast the future, otherwise you’ll be “trapped” in the present.
